Microneedling
Restore collagen & elastin for firmer & smoother skin with
facial microneedling
Facial microneedling, also known as collagen induction therapy, is a minimally invasive treatment that stimulates the skin's natural healing process to help produce collagen and elastin. Used along with medical grade hyaluronic acid and vegan apple stem cells, this process involves using fine needles to create tiny micro-injuries in the skin, which triggers the body's natural healing response and boosts collagen production and helps deliver serums deeper into the skin. This increase in collagen improves skin elasticity and texture, reduces fine lines and wrinkles, and helps fade age spots, scars, and hyperpigmentation.

Microneedling is particularly beneficial for addressing acne scars, stretch marks, and sun damage. It can also enhance the absorption of topical treatments, making products like serums more effective.
Results from microneedling vary, but most people start seeing improvements within 4 to 6 weeks after the first session. Collagen production continues for several months, with optimal results visible after 3 to 6 treatments spaced about 4 weeks apart.

After microneedling, skin may appear red or slightly swollen, similar to a mild sunburn, but this usually subsides overnight. Over time, the skin becomes smoother, firmer, and more even in tone, with a noticeable reduction in wrinkles, scars, and discoloration.
Regular maintenance sessions can help prolong the benefits and keep skin youthful.

The microneedling device we use at Wildflower Acupuncture features 12 ultra-fine needles, and operates at adjustable oscillation speeds, ranging from 6,000 to 10,000 RPM. It also allows for precise control over needle depth, which can be adjusted based on skin type, sensitivity, and the specific concerns being treated, such as fine lines or deep scars. And, by utilizing the pen's ultra fast oscillation speeds, our procedure ensures smoother, more consistent microneedling results, reducing discomfort and minimizing downtime.
FAQs
01
What is Microneedling?
Facial microneedling, performed with a special microneedling pen device, is a gentle and effective form of collagen induction therapy known for its ability to enhance skin texture and appearance. This restorative technique creates tiny microchannels in the skin, which stimulates the production of collagen and elastin, crucial proteins that improve skin elasticity and reduce fine lines and wrinkles. Facial microneedling helps to even out skin texture and tone, addressing issues like hyperpigmentation and enlarged pores, and is particularly effective at diminishing the visibility of acne scars. All facial microneedling appointments also include LED red light therapy to help reduce fine lines and wrinkles. Overall, facial microneedling is a versatile and effective option for enhancing skin health and appearance, contributing to a more youthful and radiant complexion.

What is the recovery time and how many treatments do I need?
Recovery time for microneedling is typically quick, with most patients returning to normal activities overnight. Immediately after the procedure, the skin may appear red, tight, and very shiny. By the next day, redness usually subsides completely, and the skin begins to look normal again. Then, a slight dullness may occur for a day or two as the skin heals, but this is followed by a noticeable radiance. True results, such as smoother texture and reduced fine lines or scars, usually start to become visible after about 3-4 weeks, with continued improvements after about 6 treatments spaced one month apart.

Does it hurt?
Microneedling is generally well-tolerated, and most patients do not find the procedure painful or uncomfortable at all. The sensation is often described as a mild tingling or light prickling feeling on the skin. For most individuals, the treatment is manageable without the need for numbing cream, though this is an option if desired. After treatment the skin may appear red, shiney, and "splotchy". Patients sometimes feel a warmth on the skin, like a very mild sunburn. We reccoment that patients do not wash their face for the rest of the day, but may splash water iver the face to moisten the serums. Overall, microneedling is considered a minimally invasive procedure with minimal discomfort.

What do I do before and after microneedling?
Before microneedling, it’s important to avoid sun exposure, retinoids, exfoliants, and NSAIDs (such as ibuprofen or aspirin) for a few days, as these can increase sensitivity and affect results. On the day of the procedure, ensure your skin is clean and free of makeup. After microneedling, avoid direct sun exposure, hot showers, vigorous exercise/ sweating, and makeup for at least 48 hours to prevent irritation. Refrain from using harsh skincare products like retinoids or exfoliants or taking NSAIDS during this time. Focus on gentle hydration, and apply sunscreen to protect the healing skin and wear a hat. Avoid touching or picking at the treated area, but feel free to splash with cool water to remoisten the serums.
